Day 1. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar, a capital of Mongolia and check in hotel. After lunch, visit to the Bogd Khaan Palace which is one of the oldest exhibits in Mongolia and  Natural History Museum. Dinner at a local restaurant and return to the hotel (L, D)

Day 2. Ulaanbaatar-Hustai nuruu National Park

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and drive to Hustai nuruu Nuruu National Park to see Przewalskii’s Wild horse and bird watching. Nesting Amur falcon, Hobby, Saker falcon, Black Stork, Black Vulture, Daurian Redstart, Isabelline Shrike, Daurian Jackdaw… Overnight in ger camp. (B, L, D).

Day 3. Hustai NP-Borogchin Lake

Drive to the west and reach to the Borogchin lake.  We will see Saker Falcon, Steppe Eagle, Upland Buzzards and big colony of House Martin and Barn Swallow. Breeding Bar-headed Goose, Whooper Swan, Grey-lag Goose, Ducks and Waders listed in MOSBWT04. Also we can see Asian Dowitcher pairs. Avocets, Black-winged Stilt, Marsh Harriers… Overnight in tents (Camp B; camp L; camp D). 

 

Day 4-5. Ugii lake

Drive west to the Ugii lake. Western part of the lake just after arrive. Birdwatching east, south east of the lake. Overnight in tents near the lake. Next morning we will move less than 5 km to west of the lake. Fresh water fresh fish dishes. Loon, Swan Goose, Bar headed Goose, Common and White-naped Crane, Demoiselle Crane, Ducks and Waders listed in MOSBWT04, Pallas’ Fish Eagle and White-tailed Eagle. Overnight in tent. (Camp B; camp L; camp D).

 

Day 6. Kharkhorin  and Erdenezuu Monastery

Drive to south west and visit to Kharhorin (Karkorum) and Erdenezuu monastery which is 13 th century imperial capital of Mongol Empire. Erdenezuu monastery was built in 1586. Steppe raptors, river valley birds. Overnight in tent. (Camp B; camp L; camp D).

 

Day 7. Hugshin Orkhon Arvaikheer

Drive to south west and reach to Arvaikheer town. Internet,  International calls and fax service. Mountain steppe birds, rocky mountain birds listed in MOSBWT04.  Visit to nomadic families. Overnight in the tent (Camp B; camp L; camp D).

Day 8. Orog nuur

Drive to Orog nuur, (last year this lake dried out) and birdwatching around the lake and surrounded areas. Ducks and waders listed in MOSBWT04, Pallas’s Sand grouse, Ground Jay and Crested Lark. Overnight in the tent (Camp B; camp L; camp D).

 

Day 9. Ikh Bogd

Drive to the Ikh Bogd. It is almost south eastern end of Gobi-Altai mountain range. We will see high mountain birds such as Griffon Vulture, Bearded Vulture, Chukar, Guldenstadt Red start, Alpine Accentor,Wall Creeper, Rock Sparrow, White-winged Snowfinch, Rosyfinch, Great Rosefinch… Overnight in the tent. (Camp B; camp L; camp D).

Day 10. Buuntsagaan lake

Drive to the lake. We will record most ducks, geese, waders and passerines listed in MOSBWT04 in this lake. This is one of the main stopover sites of migratory birds and also breeding ground. Overnight in tents near the lake.  (Camp B; camp L; camp D).

 

Day 11. Baidrag river

Drive to Bayahknongor town. We will check several high cliffs in the valley of the river. This will be very attractive landscapes and wonderful sites for birds including Mongolian Finch, Saker Falcons, Bearded Vulture nests and also for high mountain species. Overnight near the lakes in the tent.  (Camp B; camp L; camp D).

 

Day 12. Bayankhongor –Arvaikheer towns-Sangiin dalai lake

Pass Bayankhongor and Arvaikheer towns and reach to Sangiin dalai lake. Overnight near the lake and visit to local families. Preparation of  nomadic meal for dinner with airag, fermented horse milk. Shoveler, Wigeon, Common Teal, Pintail, Pochard, Goldeneye,  Whooper Swan, Bar headed Goose, Black-tailed Godwit, Coots, Demoiselle Crane, steppe raptors, waders…  Overnight in tent. (Camp B; camp L; camp D).

 

Day 13.  Ulaanbaatar-Terelj-Ulaanbaatar

Drive to Terelj National Park. Forest and forest steppe birds: Black Stork, Steppe Eagle, Goshawk, Black Vulture, Black-billed or Spotted Capercaillie (very rare), Oriental  Cuckoo, Hoopoe, Great spotted Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker, Great Tits, Willow Tit, Azure winged Magpie. Overnight in tent. (Camp B; camp L; camp D).  

Day 14. Departure.
